If you don't consent, nothing is loaded
No analytics or advertising scripts run until you choose "Accept all" or "Analytics only" on the consent bar. If you decline, or simply ignore the bar, no third-party script is fetched, no cookie is set, and no request is made to Google from this site.
What gets stored either way
One item is stored locally to remember your choice, so you aren't asked on every visit:

It stays on your device, is never sent anywhere, and holds a single word. Clearing your browser storage removes it and you'll be asked again.
Analytics, if you accept
Accepting analytics loads Google Tag Manager, which loads Google Analytics 4. Google then receives, and sets cookies to record:
- pages you view on this site and when
- the referring site or search that brought you here
- approximate location derived from your IP address (typically country or city level)
- device, browser, and screen characteristics
This is used only to see whether anyone reads the site and which projects draw interest. It is not used to identify you, and the data is not sold or shared with anyone else. Event and user data are retained for 14 months — the longest period Google offers — and then deleted. For returning visitors the retention period restarts on each visit.
Advertising
Choosing "Accept all" additionally grants Google's advertising consent signals (ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization), which allow advertising cookies to be set and would permit retargeting.
No advertising or retargeting is running on this site today. The consent option exists so that it works correctly if it is ever added, rather than being bolted on afterwards. Choosing "Analytics only" declines all three signals.
One thing does apply immediately if you choose "Accept all": the Analytics property has Google signals enabled. For visitors who are signed in to a Google account and have allowed Google to personalise ads, this lets Google associate the visit with information held against that account — which by Google's description can include location, search history, YouTube history, and activity on sites that partner with Google. It is used to build audience and demographic reporting. Choosing "Analytics only" or "Decline" prevents this, and you can review or delete what Google holds at myactivity.google.com.
Hosting
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub receives your IP address and request details in order to serve the page, and handles that data under its own privacy statement. That happens for every visitor regardless of consent, because it is how the page reaches you at all.
Changing your mind
Select Cookie settings in the footer of the home page at any time. Withdrawing consent is exactly as easy as giving it: the page reloads and the analytics scripts are not loaded again. You can also clear cookies and site data for this domain in your browser.
Your rights
If you're in the UK or EU, you have the right to access, correct, or erase personal data relating to you, to object to processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. Because this site holds no account and no records of its own, requests about analytics data are generally best directed at Google, whose privacy policy and controls are at policies.google.com/privacy.
